"Allans Beach and Other Peninsula Paintings" Liz Abbott.

Sandie den Dulk

16th October until 5th November 2021. Hours : 10am until 5pm weekdays. Saturdays and Public Holidays 10am until 3pm.

LIZ ABBOTT

“This collection of paintings and drawings is the culmination of our first year living on the Otago Peninsula.

The little paintings are a collection of glimpses from walks and drives around home and were painted in our tiny sunroom while we built a studio.

The large paintings are a series of works I made in my new spacious space! They were inspired by a visit to Allans Beach one Saturday afternoon in June. What had seemed like a bland, grey day was transformed by the voluminous clouds we discovered billowing above us. I took some reference photos and embarked on a series of pastel drawings which I then tried to translate into large loose paintings.

Friend and poet Kirstie McKinnon observed me as having “the sky and sea in conversation, uneasy in a sense, as if they must follow each other. There is a sense of working together and a sense of resistance”. “

Finding Joy in Troubled Times

September 24-October 15 2021

Art is my link to the very best part of me.

This current collection reflects the internal joy I have learnt to reconnect with in challenging times.

Colour and movement of paint offers me a gateway into a playful world of texture and perception.

When I paint, I leave behind logic and simply allow experience, exploration and imagination. Music adds to the richness of my experience by adding depth and understand to my process. I often contemplate the intuitive musical choice I make to accompany a painting as it reveals itself.

My wish is that you, the viewer, experience inspiration and lightness as you respond to the colours and form within these paintings. I hope you uncover symbols, forms and meaning that no one else sees. Enjoy

"I Figure"

Sandie den Dulk

An exhibition of sculpture in ceramic and Oamaru stone by Suzanne Emslie.

“I thnk my work is always evolving.

Carving in stone and building in clay helps me find balanced and stylised form… using a little exaggeration combined with a sense of fun.

Most works centre around the female form and play with size and body language, combined with a bit of “sass”.

Women are gorgeous. Aesthetically and sensually. They are beautiful, particularly with a few bumps and curves.”

Don’t miss this delightful celebration of the female form. Exhibition runs from August 2nd until August 21st. At Koru Gallery, Dunedin.

Kaori Jackson

Kaori is a self taught artist and mother of two young children living in Dunedin.  Growing up in Japan she was greatly influenced by the artistry of her grandparents. Her grandfather being a master of Japanese embroidery and her grandmother a teacher and designer of Kimono. “I like to paint in the modern style while adhering to the principals of the traditional”.

Kaori has a deep interest in wildlife and a love of birds. Living in a nature reserve she has no shortage of inspiration for her painting.  Kaori has a unique and original style mirroring her delight in her surroundings. Colour is important to her and she uses it expressively and freely. This is very apparent in her latest series “Colour Collection”. This one will be a joy to view.

Emmellee Rose's Recent Work.

Sandie den Dulk

Runs until November 7th.

Artist Emmellee Rose combines many styles from photography and printmaking to
creative use of paper and fabric to produce art showing humanity’s impact on the earth.
She studied graphic design at the Art Institute in San Francisco and is now focusing on
her art practice.

Emmellee’s current work features two distinct styles. Photographs that she has taken
around the Otago Peninsula, these have been transferred by hand to canvas and painted
which in the process creates imperfections but also an otherworldly feel.
Emmellee’s Urban Line Series is both spontaneous and practiced, methodical, but not
perfect. Imperfection is what makes us human, hence the work is cut by hand. Intricate
patterns demonstrate the interconnectedness between ourselves and the urban environment.
She says “my goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world
around them and to discover beauty in unusual, unexpected places.
